Heather Crossan
AdvCD(DONA), PCD(DONA), BDT(DONA), LCCE, CLE
Originally from St. John’s, Newfoundland, Heather attended the National Theatre School of Canada before moving to Calgary and transitioning to doula life.
In a continuing effort to increase her skills Heather originally trained as a doula in 2008, becoming a certified birth doula in 2009, a certified postpartum doula in 2010, a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator in 2011, and a Certified Lactation Educator in 2012. She is also a DONA-Approved Birth Doula Trainer, a Lamaze Seminar Instructor, a "When Survivors Give Birth" Approved Instructor and has received the honour of Advanced Doula Status with DONA International (the first, and only, doula in Alberta to do so, and only the 4th in Canada). She has had the honour of attending over 500 births.
Heather is a sought after educator, training doulas all over the world. This unique global experience lead her to focus on giving Canadian doulas, and expectant families, a training and certifying organization that is modern, elite, and above all - Canadian.
In addition to serving the Alberta doula community as President of the Calgary Doula Association for an unprecidented 3 years, Heather has also filled the role of Alberta Representative for DONA International (SPAR) for 2 years, while also serving on many committees and advisory boards.
While she has always been passionate about birthing families; she is also extremely passionate about supporting doulas. This led her to develop Doula Essentials Inc., a place where doulas can learn, grow, and succeed.
Heather lives in Calgary, with 2 large dogs, 1 small cat, and her husband Chris.
